Davis student need our help.

Davis Alumni,

Jeff Davis Freshman (Samuel Alvarado) is need of support from us, as his family has faced many horrid obstacles in these past weeks, so if you are in the area or are able to help in form or fashion, especially monetary!! After having to incur a death and serious injuries to his family members as well shortly after their car accident (negligent car chase) and shortly after being victims of a home burglary while family is in hospital, we would like to help with some of these downfalls, the community and fellow schoolmates will bee having their first fundraiser (Car Wash), Saturday, June 1st at the Burger King on Cavalcade and Irvington, 11am to 3pm.

New Davis Principal

Davis High School

It is my pleasure to announce Ms. Julissa Alcantar-Martinez as the new principal of Davis High School. Ms. Alcantar-Martinez comes to us from Galena Park ISD where she is currently the principal of both Woodland Acres Elementary and Woodland Acres Middle School. Prior to the addition of responsibility for the elementary school she was principal of the middle school for three years.  She had an additional five years principal and assistant principal experience in Galena Park. Her teaching career, as an ELA teacher, started at the American school in Puebla, Mexico, an IB K-12 school. She moved from Mexico to Edgewood ISD in San Antonio, where she stayed six years.

Ms. Alcantar-Martinez has been, for the last two years, a state semi-finalist for the HEB Principal of the Year title. She received a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. She also holds a Master’s in Applied Linguistics and is currently working on her doctorate at Lamar University.

Statement came from Dr. Terry Grier

New Davis Principal

Davis Alumni,

I would like to give you an brief update of what’s happening with the selection of the Davis Principal.  It has come to my understanding that Mr. Richard Barajas (acting Principal) withdrew from consideration for the permanent job.  Some of us believed he would have been a great Davis Principal.  We now have a unique opportunity to continue getting additional input from our community.  However, the HISD Administration has decided to schedule the interview process for this Monday, May 13 from 3:30 PM to 8:30 and 5 candidates (names kept secret until Monday) have been selected for interviews.  I believe we shouldn’t rush this process and ask you to consider sending Dr. Grier an email asking to postpone the interviews to a later date. We shouldn’t rush this process because it’s too important for our kids’ future.

If you believe this process should be delayed send an email to Dr. Grier at tgrier@houstonisd.org.  He needs to hear from each of us.

Thanks for your active participation.

Best Regards,

Hugo Mojica
